The Resource content type makes it simple to highlight important documents, videos, and files on your YaleSite. Perfect for sharing PDFs, video content, research materials, and more.
When to Use the Resource Content Type
Choose Resources when you need to highlight and organize files or videos that deserve their own dedicated space on your site. Unlike embedding files directly in pages, Resources create standalone content that can be discovered, tagged, and displayed dynamically throughout your site.
Perfect for These Use Cases:
- Academic Papers & Research: Share PDFs of publications, white papers, and research documents
- Training Materials: Highlight instructional videos, guides, and educational content
- Policy Documents: Feature important forms, procedures, and institutional materials
- Media Showcases: Display video content, recorded lectures, or presentations
- Resource Libraries: Create organized collections of downloadable materials
Key Features
Smart File Handling: Upload files directly or link to external content. Resources automatically create thumbnail images from PDFs using the first page of the PDF.
Video Integration: Embed YouTube and Vimeo videos seamlessly.
Flexible Display Options: Show resources as detailed pages and build around your resource using Layour Builder to create related content on the Resource page.
Separate Resource View: Use the Resource View block to display collections of resources in multiple formats—card grids, lists, or condensed views.
Resource Content Fields
Resource Media (Required)
The heart of your Resource—upload files (txt, rtf, doc, docx, pdf, xls, xlsx) or add YouTube/Vimeo videos. If you select a file and upload a PDF, the platform will automatically create a teaser image of the first page of your PDF. You can override this if you upload a Teaser Image to your Resource content type.
Publication Date
Add context with flexible date formatting. Choose from month/day/year, month/year, year only, or hide the date entirely—perfect for materials where timing matters or evergreen content where it doesn’t.
Resource Taxonomy Options
- Resource Category: Choose from specialized categories designed for different types of materials
- Audience: Tag who this resource serves (students, faculty, staff, alumni, general public)
- Affiliation: Connect to specific Yale schools, departments, or organizations
- Tags: Add flexible keywords for enhanced searchability
- Custom Vocabulary: Use department-specific terms for specialized collections
Teaser Fields
Control how your Resource appears in listings and card displays:
- Teaser Title: Custom title for card views (defaults to main title if left blank)
- Teaser Text: Brief description that appears in Resource collections
- Teaser Media: Override image for cards and previews (useful for branded thumbnails)
Resource View Block Section
Showcase Resources Across Your Site
The Resource View block gives you powerful ways to display your resources throughout your YaleSite. Create dynamic collections that automatically update when you add new materials.
Display Options:
Card Grid View Perfect for visual browsing. Shows thumbnail images, titles, and brief descriptions in an organized grid layout.
List View Clean, scannable format ideal for longer resource collections with detailed information and easy sorting.
Condensed View Space-efficient option that highlights key information while maintaining readability.
Smart Filtering
Use tags, categories, and content relationships to automatically display relevant resources where your audience expects to find them.
