The Page content type is the foundation of your YaleSite’s structure and the most versatile tool in your content creation toolkit. Designed to serve as the primary building block for your website, Pages offer unmatched flexibility for creating a wide range of content.

When to Use the Page Content Type

The Page content type is your go-to solution for creating:

  • Static information pages (About Us, Mission Statements, History)
  • Service descriptions (What We Offer, Academic Programs)
  • Resource collections (Guidelines, Policies, Forms)
  • Landing pages for major website sections
  • Specialized content that doesn’t fit the Event, Post, or Profile types

Any static web page that would typically be linked from your main or secondary navigation would be considered a Page content type, though Pages can be used anywhere in your site structure.

Layout Options and Sections

Pages provide the most comprehensive layout customization options in the YaleSites platform. Using the Layout Builder, you can structure your content in various section configurations:

Single Column (Default)

Full-width content for maximum readability

Two Column (70%/30%)

Main content with a sidebar for supplementary information

Two Column (50%/50%)

Equal emphasis for content requiring balance

Three Column (33%/33%/33%)

Creating Effective Pages

When building Pages for your YaleSite, consider these best practices:

  1. Start with purpose: Define what you want users to learn or do on this page
  2. Choose the right layout: Select section configurations that support your content hierarchy
  3. Incorporate diverse blocks: Use a variety of blocks to create visual interest and improve engagement
  4. Maintain white space: Don’t overcrowd your page; give your content room to breathe
  5. Consider mobile users: Preview how your page appears on smaller screens

Dynamic Display of Pages

Pages can be displayed on your site using specialized blocks like the Views. These blocks highlight your pages content and will automatically update whenever there are changes to the content type.
