Overview

This document is designed to guide you and your team on what to consider when posting events to the Yale University Public Events Calendar, powered by Localist. The calendar is the university’s main resource for sharing university-related public events happening across campus, throughout the city, and online.

Here you will find important editorial guidance for adhering to Yale’s established style conventions, instructions for what must accompany your event submission for publishing, and other details and tips to help your event stand out to the audiences you most wish to attract.

This is not a technical guide. Yale-Localist training and reference materials—including illustrated, step-by-step instructions—for designated calendar admins and end-users are available on the Yale-Localist Informational Webpage, where you will also find FAQs offering quick answers to key questions around calendar use and YaleSites integration.

For content and editorial questions, contact the Office of Public Affairs & Communications (OPAC) at yale.calendar@yale.edu

For technical questions, contact Yale ITS at calendar.support@yale.edu.

Please note all public event listings must be hosted or sponsored by a Yale University-affiliated entity or individual.

Campus co-sponsored events

Yale-Localist admins must be mindful when reviewing and approving events in their pending queue. If a user has submitted an event that is co-sponsored by two or more groups across campus, and the event is approved by one group admin in Localist, that event will then appear on each listed group’s calendar. Admins are expected to use good judgment when approving these co-sponsored events.

In the event of an error, however, please note that published events can always be edited (or removed).

Featured events

As OPAC curates university events to feature in Yale News and other related platforms, events selected for this top section on the events.yale.edu homepage will generally hold the broadest appeal for Yale and New Haven community audiences. These featured events may include significant university gatherings, larger public talks and discussions, and gallery exhibitions and performances.
