What’s changed
A variety of new features have been implemented, as well as fixes for existing features:
Features
-
Levers: The ‘Theme Settings’ form was updated to include visual representations of the colors and display options. This will help site owners quickly and confidently customize the look and feel of their site.
-
Admin Theme: New colors, typography, buttons, and other style changes were released in the administrative theme. These visual cues help separate content from the administrative controls so that authors can quickly discern the front end from the backend Drupal interfaces.
-
Buttons Block: There is a new Button Link block available. This is useful for adding one or two buttons to the content area of a page.
-
Teaser Images: A field has been added to the site settings form to upload a default teaser image. This image is used as a placeholder when a grid or list of content requires an image.
-
Redirects: The redirects management tools were added to the site administration menu.
-
Media: Dozens of new images are added to sites on install. This includes updated file names and alt-attributes to best represent the assets. This is a valuable tool for content creators who may not have the time, training, or resources to source media for their sites.
-
Opengraph: Teaser images and text are now added to the page metadata for use by search engines and social sharing tools. This uses the page ‘Teaser Title’ by default but will fall back on the ‘Title.’ It uses the ‘Teaser Media’ but will fall back on the sitewide default teaser image.
-
Google Search Console: Support for this tool was added to the site settings form. Site owners can now add their website to their GSC (previously Webmaster Tools) application.
-
Block Picker: The layout builder browser has been reorganized to display blocks in ‘Basic,’ ‘Media,’ and ‘Advanced’ categories.
-
The Drupal drop on the admin toolbar was replaced with a Yale icon.
