Platform Roadmap

The YaleSites Product Roadmap is a dynamic blueprint that outlines our vision for the future of the YaleSites platform. It provides a clear and strategic overview of the innovative features we’re planning to deliver in the upcoming months. We’ve carefully charted our map to meet the evolving needs of our community, and this document serves as guidance, helping us stay on track and focused on what matters most.

Please note that certain features or work may be subject to shifts or removal. We advise against planning work solely based on the roadmap.

Upcoming Work

We are in the process of developing numerous exciting new features and enhancements for the near future. The following is an evolving list outlining our planned work.

Platform Improvements

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, the YaleSites platform will undergo security updates and comprehensive module enhancements. Our module updates will include a thorough cleanup of the ys_core module, removing unnecessary dependencies and improving its overall structure.

Additionally, we will be reorganizing our main YaleSites repository to facilitate easier collaboration with YaleSites developers, ensuring a more streamlined and efficient development process.

Views Block Enhancements

We’re moving beyond the one-size-fits-all Views Block approach to create specialized blocks for common use cases like Events, News, and People directories. More flexible filtering and sorting options will give you greater control over your content displays. Additional display modes and visual styling options will provide more ways to showcase your content effectively.

Expanded Support for Publications, Research, and Referencing

Authors will be provided with a flexible way to manage and display bibliographic references, simplifying the process of organizing, displaying, and citing research and related materials. We’re also revisiting Profiles to better support the inclusion of publications and presentations.

Introducing Templates

Authors can now speed up the creation process by choosing from a selection of pre-designed page templates. Find a template that best matches your needs, drop in your content, and publish. We’ve also updated our documentation to explain how templates can be added and updated.

Vendor Collaboration Projects

We are thrilled to announce the start of vendor collaboration projects on the YaleSites platform. Various Yale community organizations have engaged vendors to develop custom features that will be contributed back to YaleSites, enhancing the platform for all users.

Content Syndication

Content syndication will allow sharing and display of information across multiple YaleSites with centralized management and distributed presentation. When source content changes, updates will automatically appear across all sites using that content.

Publications/Resources Content Type

A specialized content type for academic publications and resources will include enhanced metadata support for citations and research information. Integrated filtering and search capabilities will make finding specific publications easier for site visitors.

Events and Profiles Enhancements

New layout options for event displays will provide more flexibility in how you present your calendar information. Enhanced profile templates and presentation styles will better showcase people and their accomplishments. Directory functionality will see improvements in filtering options and organization.
