Tiles Block

What is a content block? Content blocks are pre-designed components that allow you to display and customize content on your website. The YaleSites platform offers a variety of blocks to meet different content needs.

The Tiles Block allows you to easily showcase short content in a captivating grid of Tile cards. Though similar to the Custom Cards block, this block offers a more uniform, grid-like presentation and more customizable features.

  • Headings, images and links are optional
  • Customize your content with various text layouts and tile configurations
  • Choose a theme for each tile based on the color palette of your site

Tiles Design Options

The Tiles block has a variety of options that can be configured to fit the layout your page, and 

  • Quantity: As long as you have the minimum of two tiles required, you can add as many as you like. while the tiles can be configured in rows of two, three or four, the height of each row will depend on the amount of text.
  • Alignment: Choose to align text to the left, right or center.
  • Position: Position your content to the bottom or top of each tile
  • Color: This block allows you to choose a color for each tile based on the color palette of your website. 
  • Images: If you add an image to any tile, it will serve as a backdrop that is overlayed by the chosen theme

Images

The example below features background images, which are overlayed by the chosen theme. Only headers were added to the tiles, while the optional content sections were left empty.

Different Themes

In this example, a different theme was chosen for each tile. The text is aligned in the center and positioned at the top, each tile remaining within the 120 character limit. Alignment and position are consistent for all tiles, while theme can vary for each tile. This example also utilizes the optional links.

Tips and Tricks

  • Stack tiles blocks on top of each other to mix and match the number of tiles in each row
  • Add the same amount of characters to each tile to keep the size consistent between rows.
